GDCA Hall of Fame

The Gisborne & District Cricket Association (GDCA) Hall of Fame was established to honor the exceptional players, umpires, and officials who have made a lasting impact on the association since its founding in the 1919/20 season. These individuals have shaped the course of cricket in the region, demonstrating unwavering commitment, skill, and leadership on and off the field. The Hall of Fame serves as a testament to their contributions and ensures their legacy is preserved for future generations.

Nomination and Selection Process

To maintain the integrity of the GDCA Hall of Fame, nominees must meet a set of rigorous criteria, ensuring that only those who have demonstrated excellence and dedication are considered. The selection process is overseen by a carefully chosen panel, which includes three current Board of Management members. The Board may also appoint additional individuals with expertise in the GDCA’s history and the wider cricket community to assist in evaluating nominees.

Nomination Guidelines for Clubs and Board Members

Clubs and GDCA Board members are invited to submit nominations for players, administrators, and umpires who have had a profound influence on the association. The nomination process is structured to recognize contributions across different eras:

  • Initial Nominations (1919/20 to 1999/2000): For the inaugural intake, each club or board member may nominate one individual per decade, starting from the 1919/20 season up until the 1999/2000 season.

Criteria for Nominees:

Players:

  • Must have been retired from competitive cricket for a minimum of 12 months at the time of nomination.

  • Must have played in the top tier of competition (A Grade or McIntyre Cup).

  • Must have represented the GDCA in senior country weeks or regional competitions for at least five seasons.

Administrators:

  • Must have served on the GDCA Committee or Board of Management for a minimum of 10 seasons.

  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the growth and administration of cricket in the region.

Umpires:

  • Must have contributed a minimum of 15 years of service as an umpire for the association.

In addition to these criteria, nominees will be evaluated based on their integrity, sportsmanship, and overall character, ensuring that inductees not only excelled in their respective roles but also upheld the highest standards of conduct within the cricket community.

Hall of Fame Legends

Within the Hall of Fame, a select group of inductees who have provided extraordinary service to the GDCA, either as players or administrators, will be elevated to the prestigious status of Hall of Fame Legends. Initially, up to five Legends will be inducted, with one additional Legend being recognized each season from the pool of Hall of Fame members. This distinction is reserved for those whose contributions go above and beyond, marking them as true pillars of the GDCA's history.

Future Nominations

For future inductions following the initial intake, clubs and GDCA Board members may re-nominate individuals who were not selected previously, as well as new nominees. However, only one nomination per club or board member will be accepted per season.

Recognition of Inductees

Those selected for induction into the GDCA Hall of Fame will be formally recognized at the Annual Presentation Night, or at a dedicated ceremony specifically organized for the occasion. This event serves as a celebration of their achievements and an opportunity for the cricketing community to honor their invaluable contributions to the GDCA.

The GDCA Hall of Fame not only commemorates the achievements of past and present cricketing figures but also serves as an inspiration for future generations of players, administrators, and umpires to continue building on the rich legacy of cricket in the Gisborne region.
